Twenty-two miles east of Sacramento on U.S. 50, Folsom is the place to stay when rafting the American River, boating on Folsom Lake or cycling along the American River Parkway.
Nearby, there's wine tasting at Sierra foothill wineries and the California gold country to explore. Several fascinating sites and structures, dating from the Gold Rush, can be visited including the first railroad turntable and the first powerhouse in the West.
Shops along Historic Sutter Street sell arts, crafts and other treasures, while bargains are found at the Folsom Premium Outlets. That's just the beginning to a carefree getaway or a fun-filled weekend in Folsom, the American River Town.
